PS5 Overheating & Liquid Metal Service

Sony cools the PS5 with liquid metal instead of regular thermal paste. Fresh, it pulls heat off the processor (APU) better than anything else. Over time though, it dries out, oxidizes, and soaks into the heatsink, leaving crusty dry patches where your processor isn't making real contact anymore.

Why the liquid metal matters most
Dust matters, but the liquid metal is the most important part of a PS5's cooling by far. It's the only thing between the processor and the heatsink. If it's degraded, no amount of canned air is going to bring your temps back down.
